Alumni

Our Alumni network consists of former Ugandan and Belgian NUV-HOP members who played a role in building and shaping the project over the years. Though no longer actively involved in daily activities, these dedicated individuals continue to support NUV-HOP by launching and leading specific initiatives and sharing their expertise.

Alumni bring invaluable experiences and perspectives, helping us adapt and innovate. They contribute by fundraising, helping with public relations, initiatives during the outreaches or mentoring current members, ensuring the lasting impact of NUV-HOP’s work. We celebrate their continued commitment and are grateful for their involvement.

Anna Vanherp
Gent, Belgium
Alumni NUV-HOP 2025 – Team HR

Hi there! I’m Anna, currently in my fifth year of medical school. In my free time I like to meet with friends and family or be active: go swimming, do group sports classes, go skiing, go hiking. I’m also a foodie at heart — I love cooking and trying out new dishes (food and drinks are my love language). For the past five years, I’ve also enjoyed being a scout leader (totem and adjective: amiable ant).
In the summer of 2023 and 2024, I had the amazing opportunity to participate in this project, and it was an experience I’ll never forget. Living with a host family allowed me to immerse myself deeply in Ugandan culture.
The collaboration between Ugandan and Belgian students stood out to me as incredibly valuable, creating a sustainable project built on local partnerships and priorities. This approach gave me a whole new perspective on volunteering, making me more conscious and thoughtful about the impact NUV-HOP creates.
The insights I’ve gained and the friendships I’ve built, have made this journey truly special.

Hi there! My name is Marie, I’m 20 years old and in my third year of medicine in Ghent. In my free time I do ballet, where I can boost my energy! Also, I love to catch up with my friends and family 🙂

NUV-HOP caught my attention because of its unique collaboration with the local community and Ugandan medical students. Another aspect that appeals me is that the project is committed to both prevention and healthcare provision. I’m incredibly greatful for the opportunity to experience life in Gulu in such a local and authentic way. Thanks to NUV-HOP, I’ve formed lifelong friendships and created memories I’ll treasure forever!
